What is Parafon Forte DSC?

Parafon Forte DSC (chlorzoxazone) is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain.

Parafon Forte DSC is used together with rest and physical therapy to treat skeletal muscle conditions such as pain or injury.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Parafon Forte DSC include:

drowsiness,

lightheadedness,

nausea,

vomiting,

upset stomach,

constipation, or;

blurred vision.

Serious side effects are rare but can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms:

signs of an allergic reaction (hives, rash, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling in the face or throat),

unusual bleeding or bruising,

yellowing of the skin or eyes,

dark urine or clay-colored stools,

fever, chills or sore throat.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Parafon Forte DSC is 250 mg to 750 mg (1 or 3 tablets) taken 3 times a day. Your doctor may increase your dose as needed.

Parafon Forte DSC should not be taken for more than 2 weeks unless directed by your doctor.

Interactions

Parafon Forte DSC may interact with other medications you are taking. This can increase your risk of side effects or cause your medications to not work as well. To avoid interactions, your doctor should manage all of your medications carefully. Be sure to tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Pharmacokinetics

Parafon Forte DSC is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The peak plasma concentration is reached within 1 to 2 hours. Parafon Forte DSC is widely distributed in the body and is bound to plasma proteins. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine. The half-life of Parafon Forte DSC is 3 to 4 hours.

Pregnancy and Parafon Forte DSC

Parafon Forte DSC should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

This medication may pass into breast milk and could have harmful effects on a nursing baby. Therefore, breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Parafon Forte DSC.

Alternatives to Parafon Forte DSC

There are many alternative muscle relaxants available. Some common examples include:

Baclofen,

Carisoprodol,

Cyclobenzaprine,

Diazepam,

Methocarbamol, or;

Tizanidine.

Storage

Store at 20°-25°C (68°-77°F) in a dry place. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
