How does Lopressor work?

Lopressor works by slowing down the heart rate and relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily through the body. Lopressor is a beta blocker, which means it blocks beta-adrenergic receptors found in the heart and blood vessels. This action reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart. Lopressor is used to treat high blood pressure, heart attacks, irregular heartbeat, and other conditions. Lopressor may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
