Dolobid

What is Dolobid?

Dolobid (diflunisal) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation. It works by blocking the production of certain natural substances that cause pain and inflammation.

Health Benefits

Dolobid is used to relieve pain from various conditions such as headache, dental pain, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, or arthritis. It is also used to reduce fever. Dolobid may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

Dosages

The usual adult dose of Dolobid is 500 mg to 1000 mg (two or three 250 mg tablets or one or two 500 mg tablets) four times a day. For children, the recommended dose varies depending on the child’s weight.

Interactions

Dolobid may interact with other NSAIDs , corticosteroids, “blood thinners”, lithium, methotrexate, probenecid, or ACE inhibitors. Tell your doctor all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

Mechanism of Action

Dolobid works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that play a role in pain and inflammation. By blocking the production of prostaglandins, Dolobid can help to relieve pain and inflammation.

Pharmacokinetics

Dolobid is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations occur within 1-2 hours after an oral dose. The elimination half-life of Dolobid is about 3 hours.

Alternatives to Dolobid

There are many other NSAIDs available, including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib (Celebrex), and indomethacin (Indocin). Some of these drugs are available over-the-counter, while others require a prescription. Talk to your doctor about which NSAID is right for you.

Is Ibuprofen more effective than Dolobid?

There is no definitive answer to this question as different people may respond differently to different medications. Some people may find that ibuprofen is more effective for their pain, while others may find that Dolobid works better. It is important to speak with your doctor about which medication is right for you.

Is Dolobid the same as ibuprofen?

No, Dolobid and ibuprofen are not the same medication. They are both NSAIDs, but they work in slightly different ways. Dolobid works by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, while ibuprofen works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX).

Symptoms of an Overdose

The most common symptom of an overdose is gastrointestinal bleeding. Other symptoms may include dizziness, headache, and vision problems. If you think you have overdosed on Dolobid, call the emergency services or seek emergency medical attention immediately.
